Who Can Join?
Membership in federal credit unions is not open to the general public. Instead, it is limited to persons sharing a common bond of occupation, community or association.  Examples are employees of corporations, members of associations and residents of a defined area.  Those who are eligible to join Vons Credit Union include:

  • All Vons employees, their family members, and households
  • Anyone who lives, works, attends school or worships in the areas of El Monte, South El Monte, Monrovia, Irwindale and parts of Temple City and Arcadia
  • Companies located in the areas listed above that would like to offer Vons Credit Union membership as an additional employee benefit

Membership is a benefit that can be shared.  Once you become a member of Vons Credit Union, your family is eligible to join as well, regardless of where they live, work or worship.

Best of all, once you become a member of Vons Credit Union, you’re always a member!  Even if you move out of the area, change jobs or no longer work for Vons, you retain all the benefits of Credit Union membership.

So, why should you join?

Vons Credit Union is just like a bank…only better.  We’re “just like a bank” because we’re a full-service financial institution offering everything from basic banking accounts, like savings and checking accounts and Christmas Club to auto loans, home mortgages, home equity lines of credit and credit cards.  We also offer free home banking and more than 28,000 ATM locations across the United States.  You’ll find Vons Credit Union branches in El Monte (Corporate Office), San Diego, San Fernando Valley, Arcadia and Santa Fe Springs, and more than 6,300 Service Centers in 40 U.S. states and seven countries.

The reason we are “better” than a bank is that we’re a non-profit organization that returns its profits to members – unlike big corporate banks that must show a profit to its shareholders every quarter.  Vons Credit Union is a not-for-profit organization that answers only to its volunteer Board of Directors.  By law, we must return our profits to members, typically in the form of lower loan rates, higher savings yields and fewer fees.

One more important point: banks are huge corporations that often become too big to provide good service. Vons Credit Union is member owned and committed to excellent customer service – one member at a time.

How to Join
If you are interested in joining, please call our branch at 626.444.1972, and we will mail you a membership application to get you started. To join Vons Credit Union, you must first be eligible under the common bond provisions listed in the Who Can Join? section above and submit a membership application. Upon submittal of the application and the purchase of at least one share (a $5 minimum savings deposit), you become a member with full voting rights.  You can even join with no money down when you start direct deposit of your net pay.  It’s that simple!

So, if you live, work, attend school or worship in the areas of El Monte, South El Monte, Monrovia, Irwindale and parts of Temple City and Arcadia, you are eligible to join the more than 40,000 Vons Credit Union members currently enjoying the benefits of membership.  The application process is fast and easy.

Important Information About New Account Opening Procedures
In accordance to the US Patriot Act and to help the government fight the funding of terrorist and money laundering activities, Federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens an account.

What this means for you: when you open an account, we will ask for your name, address, date of birth, and other information that will allow us to identify you. We may also ask to see your driver's license or other identifying documents."
